Graduation Day
Yesterday was my graduation. Detailing all the particulars in typical paragraph form would take a while (and be totally boring). So, instead, here are the bullet-points:
- Went to the Galleria w/ Jordan to look for a dress. Going to the Galleria at 10 am rules. We took our favorite route, of course: West on Richmond > Right on Sage > Right on West Alabama > Park. Parking was a breeze, and we were out in no time.
- Showed up at school at 12:45, per our instructions. Waited around forever until the start time at 2. We could have showed up at 1:45 and we would have been fine. Annoying.
- I wanted to look good in photos, so I wasn't wearing my glasses. This made it impossible to find my folks in the crowd despite their cheering and waving. And they were cheering and waving. :)
- The ceremony itself was boring. But at 2 1/2 hours, it seemed to go by relatively quickly. Everyone who spoke kept things brief. This was the best thing about graduation.
- The law center had a reception, complete with catered appetizers and plenty of booze. That rocked.
- We had dinner at District 7. They normally make you order your food Cafe Express style, but we had more than 20 people, so we reserved a side room in advance and they assigned a waitress to take food and drink orders for us. Their food, as always, was amazing, especially the crab cakes and focaccia bread. I've recommended this place before, and I will say it again. District 7 is good. Though, in response to Ben Murphy's query, I admit their vegetarian options could be more robust.
- We ended our evening at a post-graduation reception for our pal, Adam. Turns out Adam's dad is the former mayor of Austin. He and his wife were exceedingly nice. And someone made an incredible pumpkin cake dessert. A day later, and I can still taste it its pleasing, spongy textured pumpkin-ness and powdered sugar. Hmmmm.
Finally, a ton of my pals have expressed their congratulations to me, and I want to take a moment and say thanks. Especially to my pals who aren't in law school, you have been amazingly supportive and tolerant during the whole three years. Despite the fact that I rarely hang out or see you at shows anymore, most everyone has remained a good pal. When you've seen me, you've greeted me warmly, and you've always made room at the table for me and Jordan. I appreciate this. A lot.
As you know, I still have to pass the bar. But over the next few months at least, I'll make time in between my study sessions to hang out and see some shows. I hope to see you there.
